One of New England's best-known clam shacks is shutting its doors for a few
days to accommodate Hollywood.

Woodman's of Essex says it will be closed to customers until Friday morning to
allow for the shooting of a major motion picture. The shoot was scheduled for
early August, but the restaurant said producers called Monday and asked if they
could film the indoor scene this week instead. Crews have closed down the
restaurant on Monday, June 22 and filming is slotted to continue all week.
According to a source, it's a night scene in the restaurant and crews will have a
tarp over the building during filming. Crews originally planned to shoot the dining
scene in late May, but had to postpone because of scheduling issues.

Woodman's said on its Web site that this was the first time it has ever shut
down in June. The seaside restaurant opened in 1914 and lays claim to being the
birthplace of the modern, deep-fried clam, a classic created by Lawrence
"Chubby" Woodman over 95 years ago.

Sandler and his "Grown Ups" entourage including Kevin James and Salma Hayek
coupled with his former "Saturday Night Live" cohorts including Chris Rock, Rob
Schneider, David Spade and Maya Rudolph are currently filming in Essex, a Cape
Ann town near Gloucester which will continue throughout the summer. Also, the
cast will film at Water Wizz in August as a break from production in Essex.

It seems the persistent rainy weather has made outdoor shooting around Cape
Ann impossible.

The film "Grown Ups" ("Lakehouse") began shooting in the area in May. Starring
Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Kevin James and David Spade - the comedy is about
a group of high school friends who reunite as adults.
